UnDoing

Oh hullo there-

No offense to any male readers. I'm pretty sure if you're reading this you are interested in what I think I might be saying, so this may not apply to all of you.

But I've had it with how perverted men are. I think they are, or most of them are, completely out of their rational and cordial minds. Their contorted leering faces, their pathetic excuses for stealing glances, their larger-than-life attitudes towards their own sexual prowess.

Instance number one.
I'm walking a couple blocks in a skirt and this creepy government worker standing on the corner looked once but then had to cross on his signal. So he starts walking, and looks my way again. AND AGAIN. three times isn't enough, so he looks again. He's wearing sunglasses, but the creepiness shone through his lenses. They get this look on their faces like I can't see or tell what they're doing. They freeze in their leer and their utterly irrational appetite vomits its way into my narrative. I'm all wtf nevermind you, you're old enough to be my dad and ugly enough to be my bitch. I was wearing a skirt- does that mean open season creepy glances?

Instance number two.
Sitting around and having cars go by. The men are outta control! As if by being in a moving vehicle behind glass I can't see you? Watch the road fatty. I'm sure your wife should leave you. I hope you don't look at your daughters friends with the same disgusting leer. Car after car occupied by man after man; nothing but the same stealing expression. I want to take photos of their faces like this and send it to their mothers and wives. Aren't the majority of small accidents on the road caused by this rubber-necking? Utterly irrational! Apes in suits in cars! To think the major critique of my gender was our irrationality and natural tendencies! I dont know any women who perform this kind of gawking.

Instance number three.
Sure, its at a bar. And sure, some people think bars mean open season gawkfest. But perhaps if you really wanted to impress her, maybe you wouldnt stare, or look so desperate trying to get her attention. You know that face? the one that smiles too much, leans too much, tries too hard; its like do you really think if you keep looking I'll just walk over and give myself to you? CREEPY again.

So all I really wanted to say is that I find all that gawking, leering, stealing, and mental raping kind of irritating. Kind of creepy. Kind of inappropriate. It happens every day.

Coming from a girl with creepy looks experience, I can relate to your feelings. However, I think you are letting these looks get to you maybe more than they should.
Ok sure men can go overboard with their gawfest at times - no debate there - and I'll even say they should learn to time themsleves: 1-3 second check out, times up, then move on. But I can't help wondering whether you're being hard on men's looks. Relatively speaking, isn't it better that men be gawking more and acting less on their impulses. Instead of these two scenarios:
- In the old times, certainly in small town/rural communities, there would often incidences of rape by friends and family.
- In developing countries where there is no law enforcement to forbide men from touching and doing whatnot with other people that are not their wife/wives.

I would suspect that men's attraction to beautiful women/girls(your're one of them) is a known fact and therefore why not accept it and let them steal a few glances BUT if those are making you uncomfortable pretend to pick your nose that should probably work to fend off glances ;P

Your friend with spunk,
Mo

Mmmm well compared to other places, sure. But why should my expectations or standards be measured on worse alternatives? If historically it was worse doesn't that mean we are driving towards an ideal; and if so, then shouldn't this ideal be based in stark contrast to rape and silence, not in light of it? And for the other places which do worse things in the world; their actions have no claim on my own claims against the men in my region. It could be worse but it doesn't mean it couldn't be better.

And i dont favour mistaking their gawkery for flattery since it is merely temporary. It is fetishization of young women; and not admiration of the young woman I am.

The problem is
that when they come
out of the strip joints
they aren't really percieving
when they should stop
looking.

all that and this.

Okay. You're either going to have to learn to deal with this, or go join a nunnery, since you can't seriously expect basic programmed responses to change in your lifetime.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but looks can never hurt me."

but they have changed in my lifetime
i used to be a little girl that wasnt examined this way

or do you mean that because it hasnt changed yet i should never expect it to?

coz that would be unreasonable, you know, ad ver-whatever it is

Yeah. Little girls aren't found to be sexually attractive. You're not a child anymore.

And "Yeah" is also my response to your question. It hasn't changed in however many thousand years of human history. I think the odds are strongly against it changing in your next few decades of life.

Don't flatter yourself, darling. Your (self professed) lack of hygiene is not sexy.

Sorry. Better luck next time.
